IndyCar sets panel for protest hearing

IndyCar president of competition Brian Barnhart has revealed the identity of the panel called to hear the protests lodged by Newman/Haas and Ganassi against Ryan Hunter-Reay's victory in last week's controversial finish to the Indy 225 at New Hampshire. NH Motor Speedway general manager Jerry Gappens, USAC chairman Jeff Stoops and former USAC president Rollie Helmling will form the three-man committee that will rule on the protests on August 23. Organisers declared Andretti Autosport's Hunter-Reay the winner of the race, but the two rival teams contested the result because their drivers Oriol Servia (Newman/Haas) and Scott Dixon (Ganassi) had passed the #28 machine on the final restart prior to the race being halted.
