Google catalogs brings all of your holiday perusing to your Android tablet

Looking for a way to stay up to date on your favorite retailers this holiday season without amassing a mountain of soon-to-be trash? Google has announced Catalogs, an app that keeps all of your favorite look books current and in one place. The tablet application is now available for Android slates and the iPad, giving you another option when shopping from the couch. You'll be able to curate product collages that can be shared (we'd presume via Google+) with whomever you see fit. Content is pulled from over 125 brands spanning more than 400 digital catalog issues -- so you should be able to find enough to fill out that wish list. If you're looking to give it a spin, hit the source link below to download the app.

Update: Well folks, while the Google Catalogs app is new for Android, the iPad verson's been around for a couple months now. [Thanks, TUAW]

RIM Giving Away PlayBook Tablets With Enterprise Server v.5 Purchase

Well, this is strange. In a year that saw HP sell whatever TouchPad tablets were left for just $99, RIM is also seemingly trying to think of creative ways to get rid of their leftover BlackBerry PlayBook slates. In a world ruled by the iPad, the PlayBook never really stood a chance. It was engineered to only truly work well with BlackBerry...

How to protect your home while on holiday

iPad

Many travelers ponder how to keep their home and belongings safe while on holiday. Perhaps this story answers that, but it also raises some serious questions about the holidaying habits of modern Australians.

An Aussie on vacation in Mauritius logged on to his iPad. What did he do while holidaying in one of the most beautiful places in the world?

Maybe he was homesick. He watched footage of his house -- 8,000 kilometers away in suburban Melbourne.

Freaklabs' FredBoard gives the gift of hackerspace to Mothership HackerMoms

Come this (Black) Friday, it'll officially be the season for gift-giving and general family dysfunction. The outfit's got a monster mash FredBoard up for order that splices together an Arduino and breadboard to make your first brush with homegrown modding a relatively painless affair. These ladies-in-programming currently swap house hosting duties, but with the boost from your potential feel-good donations, could snag a proper venue of their own. UFC 139 primer: Silva fighting to fend off retirement, doesn?t want to let down his fans

UFC 139 primer: Silva fighting to fend off retirement, doesn?t want to let down his fans

This wasn't the time Wanderlei Silva wanted to go out. He's on a card with 41-year-old in the main event and facing a 39-year-old, yet "The Axe Murderer" is the guy trying to hold off retirement talk.

Silva, a loser of 6-of-8, faces Cung Le in the co-main event of UFC 139 tomorrow in San Jose, Ca. Another loss and it'll force UFC president Dana White to tell the former PRIDE star that's it. His June 27-second loss to Chris Leben at UFC 132 has Silva all fired up to quiet the critics.

"My motivation is back," Silva, 35, told MMAjunkie.com. "I need to make my fans happy again. I have a lot of fans around the world. I know Saturday a lot of guys are going to have barbecue in their homes, and I know my responsibility to the millions and millions and millions of people that are going to watch that fight. I want to make my fans happy."

Silva (34-11-1, 3-6 UFC) doesn't believe folks when they talk about his chin being weak after 46 professional fights.

"In the first three minutes, everybody has power. The gloves are very small. One punch can finish you. But we tried to train so that this won't happen anymore," Silva said. "I trained more my defense," he said. "My attack is really good, but I trained more my defense. My coach told me what I need to do, and I tried."

Le presents a unique challenge. He's made a successful transition from the world of kickboxing. The Vietnamese fighter does a brilliant job of controlling distance with his kicks. Silva has to find a way to get inside or he'll get picked apart. Le is a minus-150 favorite.

UFC 143 in Las Vegas: Featherweights Erik Koch and Dustin Poirier will fight on Super Bowl Weekend. Poirier asked for the bout which will pit two rising stars against each other.

Johnson scores big KO, Lamas and Uyenoyama win at UFC on Fox

Johnson scores big KO, Lamas and Uyenoyama win at UFC on Fox

In the preliminary fights at UFC on Fox in Anaheim, Ricardo Lamas scored an emotional win, DaMarques Johnson notched a quick KO and Darren Uyenoyama dominated his way to a decision.

Johnson gets KO of the Night nominee

Damarques Johnson made quick work of fellow "Ultimate Fighter" alumnus Clay Harvison, knocking him out in the first round. Johnson landed a left hook, took a second to celebrate, then threw another punch to finish the bout at 1:34. That moves Johnson's record to 13-9, with 4-3 in the UFC, while is now 9-4. He is 1-2 in the UFC, losing his last two bouts.

"It feels great to get the win because I know that's what I'm capable of. I just wanted to go out there and show a more polished version of myself and I think I did that tonight. I was prepared to let the fight go wherever he wanted to take it. I planned on giving him a false sense of security and self confidence so that I could capitalize on his mistakes if he over-committed," Johnson said.

Lamas wins with an arm triangle

Though Cub Swanson was touted as the better grappler, Ricard Lamas took their bout with an arm triangle. Lamas started out the first round with a takedown, but left his neck open for a guillotine, one of Swanson's favorite moves. Lamas tried to slam Swanson, and then stood up to finally shake him off. Swanson was aggressive in stand-up, landing big kicks and strikes.

In the third, Lamas got a takedown that led to ground and pound, then switched to a perfectly executed arm triangle. Swanson appeared to be comfortable at first, but Swanson couldn't defend. He was forced to tap at 2:16 of the second round.

Afterwards, Lamas broke down in tears and dedicated the fight to his grandmother, who passed away a week ago. Lamas is 11-2 after the win, and Swanson, who had a long layoff due to a stretch of injuries, is now 15-5.

Johnson scores big KO, Lamas and Uyenoyama win at UFC on Fox

Uyenoyama takes out "The Kid"

Darren Uyenoyama's superior grappling and conditioning led to decision win. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-26, 30-27.

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto started strong with a takedown, but Uyenoyama defended well and was able to get back up. Uyenoyama knocked Yamamoto down and then controlled him on the ground. He slapped on a rear naked choke and sunk it deep, but it was late in the round. Yamamoto looked like he was going to tap, but the horn sounded to end the round. Yamamoto stood up quickly, clarifying that he did not tap.

In the second round, Yamamoto caught Uyenoyama with a clean strike and cut his face. Uyenoyama survived and got the edge in grappling. He mounted Yamamoto's back, using a body triangle to control the fight.

The third round featured more excellent grappling from Uyenoyama. He controlled Yamamoto for most of the round on the ground. When they were on their feet, he showed excellent takedown defense.

"I was walking to the Octagon and I still couldn't believe I was about to compete in the UFC. I didn't have an easy road to get here and I had the honor of fighting a legend and a personal hero of mine. I hope that the fight wasn't boring because I tried to make it exciting for the fans. I had trouble with a cut during training and 'Kid' was able to open it up again in there. He hit me with some hard shots and I'm happy I was able to take them because I think that he is one of the hardest punchers in the division," Uyenoyoma said after the bout.

UFC hands out Twitter bonuses to Brazilians, ?Smooth? and a lady

UFC hands out Twitter bonuses to Brazilians, ?Smooth? and a ladyAt the Fighters' Summit in June, the UFC promised to hand out bonuses to fighters based on their Twitter activity. UFC president Dana White is a huge fan of the social networking site because it allows fans and fighters to interact easily. When the UFC announced the bonuses, they were open to both Strikeforce and UFC fighters.

Only one Strikeforce fighter picked up any of the $5,000 bonuses, and that was Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos. Since Strikeforce doesn't give out postfight bonuses like the UFC does for Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, or Submission of the Night, this is the first bonus given to a female fighter.

Here's the complete list of winners:

Twitter Bonus Recipients
75,000+ followers:
Most Followers: Anderson Silva
Largest Percentage Growth: Anderson Silva
Most Creative: Forrest Griffin

30-75,000+ followers:
Most Followers: Antonio Minotauro Nogueira
Largest Percentage Growth: Antonio Minotauro Nogueira
Most Creative: Joe Lauzon

10-30,000+ followers:
Most Followers: Demian Maia
Largest Percentage Growth: Demian Maia
Most Creative: Benson Henderson

2-10,000+ followers:
Most Followers: Cris Cyborg
Largest Percentage Growth: Cris Cyborg
Most Creative: Joseph Benavidez

White picked out the most creative types, but I can't agree with all of his picks. Amir Sadollah, Miguel Torres and Kenny Florian are just as deserving. Miesha Tate shares the best pictures, and Duane Ludwig is the most well-rounded.

[Related: Mexican soccer club puts players' Twitter handles on jerseys]

The one category missing is the one that the UFC values the most: fan interaction. Fighters have come up with many different ways to use Twitter to meet fans, give away gear and memorabilia, and mobilize them to get a fight or a spot on a card. Considering that is how the UFC uses its own account, it should add a bonus for fighters can deftly use Twitter to work with fans.

Are you on Twitter? Do you agree with the awards that the UFC has awarded? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or of course, on Twitter.

Josh Grispi would like your help in fighting his father?s cancer

Josh Grispi would like your help in fighting his father?s cancer

Featherweight Josh Grispi recently decided to take a step away from MMA to spend time with his father, who has brain cancer, and newborn son. Grispi now would like some help in taking care of his father.

Grispi is hosting two fundraisers to help his father with the extensive medical bills that come with getting cancer. You can help out two ways:

-- If you're going to be around Braintree, Mass., on November 25, go to the fundraiser. It costs $25, and will have auctions and raffles for UFC memorabilia, and appearances by fighters.

-- If you, like me, can't be in Boston on Thanksgiving weekend, make a donation online here.

Grispi made $15,000 in his last fight, a loss in June to George Roop. Considering that cancer bills can reach upwards of $500,000, every little bit can help. If you've enjoyed Grispi's submissions of Mark Hominick, L.C. Davis or Jens Pulver, then consider helping out as much as you can.

Apple releases iOS 5.0.1, fixes bugs plaguing battery life and document syncing

Get ready to fire up iTunes and plug in that iOS device, because Apple's just released iOS 5.0.1. The release notes are identical to the two beta releases, which include fixing bugs relating to battery life and document syncing, while also re-enabling app switching gestures that developers previously had access to on the original iPad. And for those down under, voice recognition has apparently been improved when dictating with an Aussie accent. Those not interested in the 790MB download from iTunes, can look for a 44.6MB delta -- including only the changes -- from their device Settings. You'll find photographic evidence of the latter after the break.

Charlie Miller's latest iOS hack gets into the App Store, gets him tossed out (video)

This isn't the first brush Apple's iOS platform has had with apps that exploit security holes to run unsigned code, but according to the developer of InstaStock, this may be the first to get a security researcher booted from its developer program. Charlie Miller shared his discovery with Forbes earlier today, showing off an app which successfully made it through Apple's approval process despite packing the ability to download and run unsigned code. That could allow a malicious app to access user data or activate hardware features remotely. Apple pulled the app after the findings were published, and according to Miller, revoked his developer access shortly afterward for what seems to be a clear violation of the guidelines. He told CNET that he alerted Apple to the exploit three weeks ago, however it's unknown whether or not a fix for the problem is included in the new 5.0.1 version of iOS that's currently in testing. He'll be explaining his method in more detail next week at SysCan, but until the hole is confirmed closed we'd probably keep a tight leash on our app store browsing.

Tank ownership infographic

Tanks are a unique form of wheeled transportation. Performance is measured not in terms of speed or quickness, but how much destruction a tank can dish out and absorb in return. Tanks played a huge role in the first and second World Wars, but in our modern age of unmanned drone warfare and undetectable teams of special operators, these iron-sided bears have become to military aficionados what a Duesenberg is to a classic car collector. And thus, owning your own tank may be as attractive a proposition to you as putting an MG in your garage.

This infographic is a good primer for tank ownership, and includes such information as where to buy one, how much you can expect to pay, and the legal requirements you'll need to meet before you can call yourself the proud owner of a weapon of tracked destruction. You'll also be in good company, as the infographic cites a number of other known tank owners, including novelist Tom Clancy, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. Follow the jump to see the infographic from top to bottom.
