Who needs anonymous sources when you've got a witch like Jerry Hildenbrand? Here, in his own words, from last week's Android Central Podcast, is Jerry predicting a Nexus-caliber smartphone with Droid branding. Or, maybe Jerry and those anonymous sources are all wrong.

Sonnen goes into full WWE mode, says the Silvas abandoned the Brazilian people
Chael Sonnen is back in full force. His attack on Brazilian mixed martial arts fighters hits a new level with this video shot by redetv.com. Sonnen's latest bit calls out legends like Wanderlei Silva and Anderson Silva for turning their backs on Brazil.
"I'm attempting to pick a fight with fighters from Brazil. Not fighters that care about you Brazil. Fighters that abandoned you," Sonnen said (1:10 mark). "Fighters that claim they're from Brazil like Wanderlei Silva, but he lives in a gated community in Las Vegas. He drives an Aston Martin! Do you guys even know what that is? That's what James Bond drives. It costs two-hundred grand."
Sonnen goes on to say Silva could've been a bit more frugal and sent the money he saved back to Brazil to build schools. He also says Anderson Silva just put $2 million down on an Los Angeles condo.
Playing the role of "Mean" Gene Okerland in this doozy is Fernando Navarro.
Anderson Silva is joined by at least 12 other Brazilian fighters at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro. One has to wonder if Sonnen will really stir the pot by making an appearance at the event. Sonnen's scheduled return to the Octagon comes in October at UFC 136 against Brian Stann.

Report: 15,500 Navistar school buses recalled over fire possibility
Filed under: Recalls, Safety, Work, Specialty
The New York Times is reporting that Navistar is recalling 15,500 school buses over a fire risk. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the popular buses were built with a positive alternator cable that could rub against a mounting bracket. Should the cable's insulation be compromised, the electrical system could malfunction, potentially resulting in a fire. The recall covers 2007-2012 model-year buses, including the BE and CE series. The report says that Navistar itself filed the recall and that so far, no fires have been reported from vehicles in the field.
Navistar is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and manufacturers a number of heavy-duty vehicles for everything from construction and farm use to people and cargo conveyance. The BE and CE series buses are built by subsidiary IC Bus.

Acer Iconia A500 getting a small system update today
If you're rocking an Acer Iconia A500 (and haven't hacked the living daylights out of it!) chances are you'll have a small system update available today. The update seems pretty minor, and many think it's preparation for the big update everyone expects soon to get the Iconia to Android 3.2, which is reportedly rolling out in parts of Europe for the A501 model today.
Today's update (for those of you stateside) doesn't have anything new or improved that we can see, but it doesn't seem to break root if that's how you roll. Everyone is discussing it in the forums, if you've seen the update jump in and share.

Ferrari 458 steering wheel replicated as Xbox 360 controller
Filed under: Toys/Games
One of the most complex parts of a modern Formula One car is its steering wheel, which can be worth tens of thousands of dollars on its own and packing all the controls you'd expect to find on a dashboard right onto the wheel itself. Ferrari took a similar approach with the steering wheel on the 458 Italia, moving the starter button, chassis mode dial, windshield wiper controls, headlights, turning indicators... everything right onto the face of the wheel, while removing the usual stalks to allow for unimpeded access to the oversize shift paddles.
The result is a thorough rethink of one of the automobile's most basic components, though some have derided it as too complex. And if you're one of those who thought the end result looks more like a video game controller than a car's steering wheel, you're not alone: feast your eyes on the latest device from Thrustmaster.
Designed as a controller for driving and racing games on the Microsoft xBox 360, the Ferrari 458 replica wheel is flush with all the functions you'd need for playing Forza 4 or the latest Need for Speed game the way it ought to be played. Coming this October for less than $90, it's considerably more affordable than some of Fanatec's offerings, and could be just the thing to keep us from getting any work done. Check it out in the gallery and follow the jump for the full press release.

A vicious head kick does the job as Curran takes featherweight tourney at Bellator 48
Pat Curran stood with one of the most feared knockout artists in the world at 145 pounds and beat Marlon Sandro in the race to land the first fight changing shot. Once he did, Sandro couldn't recover, and Curran took home another $100,000 check and another Bellator tournament title. Curran stopped Sandro with a brilliantly timed head kick to post the victory at the 4:00 mark of the second round at Bellator 48 in Uncasville, Ct.
The 23-year-old Curran has won 7-of-8. His resume of includes wins over Ronnie Mann, Roger Huerta, Toby Imada and Sandro. His only recent loss came via decision at lightweight against Eddie Alvarez, the No. 5 ranked 155-pounder in the world. Along with the big payday, Curran earns himself a future shot at the Bellator featherweight champ Joe Warren.
When it started back in June, Sandro (19-3) was a sizable favorite to win the tournament. The Brazilian entered last night's fight ranked No. 5 at featherweight while Curran (16-4) was way down at No. 19.
It was far from an easy night for Curran. Sandro, 34, was outpacing him and landing the more effective shots on the feet. The first round was close, but Cagewriter gave a slight edge to Sandro. In the second, Curran's output dipped and a Sandro overhand right with 3;30 left ripped open a nasty gash over the American's eye. Curran simply wasn't throwing enough shots to score. When he got a little more active, it quickly changed the direction of the fight.
Curran flicked out a double jab, Sandro ducked to his left to avoid the punches and that's when the American unleashed the head kick. It was perfect. Sandro's momentum took him right into Curran's right shin. Sandro went down in a heap and his arms fell to the side. Curran jumped on top and unloaded three more punches on the defenseless Brazilian. Referee Keith Peterson launched himself through the air to push Curran away and save Sandro.

Official: 2013 Lexus GS 350 fully revealed at Pebble Beach
Filed under: Sedan, Lexus, Luxury
We've endured the teasers, seen the leaks and even driven a prototype, and now the wraps officially come off. This is the 2013 Lexus GS 350, the automaker's latest bid to create a driver-focused mid-sizer aimed at the hearts, minds and wallets of would-be 5 Series and E-Class buyers. It might be a tough sell, but it's a compelling case on paper, even if the styling leaves us wanting.

Video: AdSpotting: New Ram ads push horses as brand looks for growth
Filed under: Truck, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Dodge
Company: Chrysler
Brand: Ram
Medium: TV
Ad Agency: The Richards Group, Dallas
Product: Ram Pickup
Campaign: "Code of the West"
What We Like: There is a lot of rational left-brain advertising in the auto sector these days, especially in the pickup truck category. Take Ford, which has fast-talking, urbane actor/comedian Dennis Leary rattling off all kinds of numbers about fuel economy, towing capacity, etc. A new Ram ad campaign, launched a few months ago, goes the other way, continuing to use cowboy actor Sam Elliott whose leathery vocal chords seem to ooze images of toughness, heroism and even nostalgia for the kind of old-school work ethic that built the frontier. Indeed, this whole campaign seems to point one's thinking and emotions toward Gary Cooper's code of honor in the film classic "High Noon," and uses sets and locales that were actually used for the HBO series "Deadwood."
The two new ads in the campaign, carrying the tagline "Guts. Glory. Ram," and revolving around a theme of "Code of the West," actually takes the cowboy imagery Chrysler is establishing and dials in a bit of left brain info: the fact that Ram gets 20 mpg with its V8 Hemi, and another TV spot for the Power Wagon that shows the pickup rock crawling.
The best overall ad campaign for trucks we ever saw was Chevy's "Like A Rock." It combined a great music track with emotionally driven imagery that set the stage for any left-brain messaging GM wanted to convey. It was signature creative in its day. This Ram effort fills a void vacated by Chevy - asserting the truck and an advertising story line that makes you want to option up your next Ram for the saddle leather upholstery (if you can afford it), and get the "Big Horn" belt-buckle.
What We Don't Like: The Power Wagon TV spot shows off the truck's rock crawling capability, and asserts that Ram is the only truck "off the line" that can do that. But the truck is just climbing up a mound of rocks... to what end? How about making the point by showing a story of why the truck has to crawl those rocks?
There is a line in the campaign, though not in these two new ads, that proclaims: "There is No Middle Ground." Call us over-analytical, but while we know this is an ad about a truck and maintaining standards of excellence, the "No Middle Ground" as an idea is going to lose currency very quickly as the whole country comes to realize that out economic survival depends on political leaders finding just that - some middle ground. We'd hate to see a scene from the campaign used by far right wingers to make a point about something that has nothing to do with trucks.
And hey... how about some real music attached to this campaign.
Strategy: It's not Dodge Ram any more. The company, under the direction of Fiat, has separated Dodge cars and crossovers from the truck business. So, it's just Ram now. Company executives point to a 26% increase in business this year as evidence that the strategy and campaign are working to drive traffic. Some future Ram products are going to be adapted from Fiat commercial vehicles, we think. It will be interesting to see how the company morphs this very compelling creative to support those vehicles, unless Sam Elliott remains Ram pickup exclusive. Then again, wouldn't it be cool to see spagetti western style ads? Paging Clint Eastwood.
Grade: B+

Author Highlighting Is a Google Must for Bloggers
Today?s post may seem like an under the hood, techie kind of tip, and it is that, but it also outlines something content producers and bloggers need to be aware of.
In an effort to place more emphasis on the original authors of content and perhaps further eliminate duplicate content, Google has begun placing great emphasis on an anchor text attribute ? rel=?author?
An anchor text attribute is just more information contained in the HMTL code of a link. In this case the use of the author attribute in conjunction with content, such as a blog post, signals search spiders that this is the original author.
So a link to my about us page with attribute would look like this:a href="http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/about/" rel="author"John Jantsch
The reward for using this attribute has started showing up in search results with the image of the author placed to the right of the results in a growing number of instances. The Google author program kicked off formally a while back with a limited number of well-know bloggers and journalists and is slowly rolling out to others. (Here?s the official Google announcement)
The images Google is showing next to the selected articles are drawn from Google Plus profiles and link back to the author?s profile page. Some people have noted, incorrectly that this is a further extension of active Google+ users into the search results. The author program was actually in place prior to Google Plus and drew originally on the old Google personal profiles. In fact, some of the higher profile authors chosen have very limited Google+ activity.
Going forward a Google+ account and profile will be part of the deal for those that want to have their images included on original content, but use of the rel=?author? attribute in a very specific fashion is what will ultimately get your content chosen.
The video below, featuring Google spokesperson Matt Cutts, outlines the path Google hopes you?ll take to include the rel=author attribute.
Basically here are the steps:
- You need to have a link on every page of content that points to the author?s about me page, on the same domain, using the author attribute in the link.
- The author?s about me page should also point to their Google+ profile.
- To close the loop, the author?s Google+ profile should point to the author?s about me page.
How to get the author attribute in your links
- Go back and put a byline on all pages with articles and add the link to your about me page
- Read more about various ways to implement from Google help
- On WordPress blogs ? you have plug in options, but my advice is start with this post on author highlight from Yoast
